Recognizing one of life’s major accomplishments is what commencement is all about. On May 17, Sandhills will hold its forty-eighth graduation ceremony.
After chartering in 1963, the first graduate awarded a college degree by Sandhills Community College was Jeanne Waldman. Even though she was the only graduate, President Raymond Stone held the first ceremony at the Southern Pines High School Auditorium in a single-graduate ceremony in 1966.
This year the college will graduate 755 students as they receive degrees, diplomas and certificates. Commencement will be held promptly at 10 AM on the Boyd Library Green.
As a way to honor this year’s graduates and alumni of Sandhills, the Alumni Association offers graduates, their friends and family and alumni an opportunity to leave their permanent mark on the campus. The Sandhills Community College Graduate Walk is a beautifully designed brick area; centrally located on campus on the path all graduates pass each May at commencement. Each brick is laser engraved with their name, year of graduation and degree.
The bricks are available for a $100 contribution to the SCC Alumni Association. To purchase a brick, please contact Jennifer Dail at (910) 695-3712 or firstname.lastname@example.org or Sherrill Matthews at (910) 246-4965 or email@example.com.
