As we thaw out from a harsh winter and anticipate a lovely spring, join your friends in a Creative Living class or two at Sandhills Community College in March and April. Topics will range from money to learning Spanish to Hollywood hunks. Or grab one of the books that will be discussed in Book Club and enjoy the discussion.
“Financial Decision Making for Women” is designed exclusively for women at or near retirement. Topics will include understanding investment jargon, dealing with financial professionals, getting the most from investments while reducing risks, reducing probate costs, estate taxes for heirs, income taxes, and long-term care planning. Instructor Noelle Granville is a Certified Senior Advisor.
Class will be on Tuesdays, March 3-31, 3-5 p.m. The cost is $20.
“Spanish Intermediate Conversation” incorporates lessons for students planning to travel or who desire to interact with Spanish-speaking personnel in the workplace. Instructor Mercedes Saulsbury has been teaching Spanish at SCC for 20 years. The required textbook is available in the SCC Bookstore. The prerequisite is “Spanish Beginning Conversation” or prior experience.
Class will be on Mondays and Wednesdays, March 2-March 25, 6-8 p.m. the cost is $50.
“Spanish Advanced Conversation” is designed to increase student’s ability to function in a Spanish-speaking environment or in the workplace. They will learn more advanced communication in fun and creative ways. The required textbook is available in the SCC Bookstore. The prerequisite is “Spanish Intermediate Conversation” or prior experience.
Class will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays, March 30-April 27 (no class on April 6), 6-8 p.m. The cost is $50.
“Spring Book Club” will discuss “The Good Lord Bird,” a novel by James McBride on March 20. April 17 discussion will be “Middlemarch” by George Eliot.
Registration is not required. Facilitator JoAnne Ashton will lead discussion 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the Wood Reading Room of Boyd Library.
“Forty Years of Hollywood Hunks” is a new film class that will focus on the films that secured Hollywood’s Most Handsome Hero status for five Icons of American cinema. Each class film will feature the performance that left these actors “forever young” in the hearts and minds of the nation’s filmgoers.
Instructor Ron Layne will facilitate discussion on Wednesdays, April 1-29, 2-4:30 p.m. the cost is $20.
“Annuities: Myths & Misconceptions” will help to demystify the world of annuity investing. This course covers fixed, indexed, variable, and immediate annuities, as well as buying and investing strategies. Workbooks and helpful literature are provided.
