August Begins the Start of SCC Career Training Courses at the Hoke Center


Many Continuing Education Career Training classes are set to begin in August at the Sandhills Hoke Center in Raeford.

Health Care Occupations

Learn the required skills to become a certified EKG Technician and work in a variety of healthcare settings. Topics include cardiac anatomy and physiology, cardiac cycle, EKG strip analysis, 12 lead EKG, and EKG procedures.

The EKG Technician class will be instructed by Cathy Hester on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 6- Dec. 6, from 6-9 p.m.

A state-certified program, Nurse Aide, Level 1, will prepare students for work under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals in performing hands-on patient care. The course includes preparation for the State Board examination for NC NA Registry listing. Please contact Jenell Powell at 695-3965 for program information. The cost of the course is $205.50 plus the cost of the course pack.

Sharon Parter will instruct Nurse Aide, Level 1 at the Sandhills Hoke Center Aug. 15-Dec. 12 on Mondays and Wednesdays. Class will be held at 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. with a lab will be held from 2-4 p.m.

An additional Nurse Aide, Level 1 class with be taught by Sharon Parter at the Sandhills Hoke Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Class will run from Aug. 16- Dec. 13 from 4-9:30 p.m. with a lab from 2-4 p.m.

The Phlebotomy Technician and Clinical Rotation course will teach the skills necessary to draw blood specimens in various healthcare settings and blood donation centers. Topics include venipuncture, specimen handling, record-keeping, and the healthcare profession. A Work Keys Reading for Information test, drug screening, background check, and current immunizations are required for registration. Please email for a complete list of program requirements.

The cost for the Phlebotomy Technician and Clinical Rotation course is $205.50 plus text.

Rachel Hall will offer this class Aug. 22-Dec. 14 on Mondays and Wednesdays plus four Saturdays from 9-3 p.m.

The SCC Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet specific industry needs, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives or to maintain and support current business efforts.
