The Technology Training division of Continuing Education at Sandhills Community College has a good number of courses for business and home users set to begin in September.
Social Media Basics for Small Business will put students in the driver’s seat of their social media campaign. The importance of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and other social media outlets will be explored. This course will help individuals understand the potential for growing business, expanding the customer base, and making more money through social media marketing. Students can bring their own laptop or iPad to class if desired.
Social Media Basics for Small Business is open to small business owners, employees or anyone interested in expanding their social media knowledge. Scott Zimmerman will teach over four days with a one-hour lunch break each day. Students can bring a lunch or purchase one in The Flight Deck in Dempsey Student Center (Friday class only). Class will be held Sept. 9, 10, 16 and 17 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The cost is $75.
iPad Basics for Business Users is a new class that will teach students to maximize productivity using many of the applications found on an iPad. Participants will learn to set up Contacts, use Mail for checking and sending email, Messages to text business associates or contacts, Calendar to set up appointments, Camera for taking photos and making videos, as well as Notes, Reminders, Safari, and others. Downloading and installing apps from the App Store will also be taught.
Students in iPad Basics for Business Users must bring their own iPad or iPhone to class with the latest operating system (iOS) installed. Class will be held Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept. 19 - Oct. 17, from 6 - 8:30 p.m. The cost is $75.
Word 2013 Level 1 will provide the basic concepts and skills needed to be productive with Microsoft Word 2013 including how to use the tools on the ribbon, how to create and save files, how to format characters and paragraphs, make lists, use tabs, headers and footers, templates, and more. Beginners are welcome. A flash drive 8GB or larger is required.
Word 2013 Level 1 will be held Mondays and Wednesdays, Sept.12 - Oct. 19, from 6 - 8p.m. The cost is $75 plus text.
Windows 10 Level 1 will cover how to navigate and use the new Windows 10 operating system. Topics will include using Windows applications, computer terminology, how to use the Start Menu, and how to create, save, format, locate and print files. Students should have upgraded to Windows 10 or have a new computer with this operating system. A flash drive 8GB or larger is required.

5 Essentials for Keeping Your Computer Safe will help you set up protective measures to keep the personal data on your computer safe. Topics covered will be updating software, backing up your data using cloud-based storage, virus protection, and more.
