Career Training Classes Set to Begin in October

The Continuing Education Career Training program is a perfect local resource for adult learners who want to improve workplace skills, achieve job certification or recertification, improve employment marketability or explore new opportunities. 

Nurse Aide, Level 1 Refresher, is a forty-hour program is designed for individuals whose listing has expired on the NC Nurse Aide I Registry. Eligible individuals must have completed a State-Approved Nurse Aide I program and have a certificate or transcript supporting completion. This program is also designed for individuals with a state-recognized or military health care credential. 

Please contact Jenell Powell at 695-3965 for enrollment approval in Nurse Aide, Level 1 Refresher. The class will meet Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Oct. 17, 19, 21, 24 & 26. The cost of the class is $130. 

Successful completion of the Auto Safety Inspection course will certify students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles Safety Inspection Law. Must have a valid driver’s license. 

Auto Safety Inspection will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 18 and 20 from 6 – 10 p.m. The cost is $75.00.

Successful completion of the OBD Emissions Control Inspection course will certify students to inspect motor vehicles under the NC Motor Vehicles OBD Emissions Control Inspection Law. Students must be Certified in Auto Safety Inspection. This is also the Recertification class. 

OBD Emissions Control Inspection will be held Tuesday, Oct. 25 and Thursday, Oct. 27 from 6 – 10 p.m. The cost is $75.

The Notary Public class certifies participants to officially authorized to witness signatures on legal documents, collect sworn statements, and administer oaths as a notary public. Participants must have a high school diploma or GED and no felony convictions.

Notary Public will meet Tuesday, Oct. 18 and Thursday, Oct. 20 from 5:45 – 9:15 p.m. The cost is $75.  

ServSafe® Food Safety and Sanitation teaches students the basics of food handling safety and facility sanitation requirements. This course is recommended for all food service facilities, including supervisory personnel, culinary professionals, and food service staff.

The Human Services Certificate course goes deeper into the information and strategies necessary to develop a clear understanding of the knowledge required to be successful within an entry-level position in the field of human services. Prerequisite: Intro to Human Services

Human Services Certificate will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 11 – Dec. 6 from 6 – 9 p.m. The cost is $130 plus the cost of the course pack. 

Customized Training for Business and Industry

The Sandhills Community College Continuing Education team can customize courses to meet the specific needs of a business or industry, provide resources to assist in developing new training initiatives, or to maintain and support current efforts. Courses can be held at convenient times for you and your staff at any SCC location, your business, or other convenient locations.

Seats are still available for these classes. To register in person, stop by the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall. You may also register by phone with a credit card at (910) 695-3980. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
