Small Business Center Free Seminars for January

The mission of the Small Business Center at Sandhills Community College is to increase the success rate and numbers of viable small businesses in North Carolina by providing high quality, readily accessible assistance to prospective and existing small business owners that will lead to job creation and retention. All seminars offered are free of cost and targeted to the needs of small business owners and startups.


“Mobile Food Business: Is this a Good Fit for You?” On average, food travels 1,500 miles from

farm to plate. Make your food business mobile and local! Learn about types of mobile food businesses - food trucks, mobile produce markets, dinner at your door, and so much more. 


Mobile Food Business: Is this a Good Fit for You? Will be held Jan. 12 from 6 – 8 p.m. and Jan. 19 from 6 – 8 p.m. Both sessions contain the same information.


QuickBooks l will help teach business owners keep their books. A QuickBooks expert will take students on a tour and suggest ways that the software will help entrepreneurs save time, better manage their business, simplify bookkeeping and help businesses avoid costly errors. Register early. Space is limited. Basic computer knowledge is required. 


QuickBooks l will be held Jan. 16 from 6 – 9 p.m.


QuickBooks ll expands on what was learned in QuickBooks l. Our QuickBooks expert will cover more information on the sales process by showing participants how to manage their accounts receivable and accounts payable, reconcile bank accounts, and create financial reports. 


QuickBooks ll will be held Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. – noon. Register early. Space is limited. Basic computer knowledge is required.


Be Free from Debt’s Hold–Prepare for a Bank Business Loan is targeted for those who want to be their own boss and start a small business. In this three-hour seminar, learn a simple, effective method to start the process of becoming debt free! You will also learn about the shams and “quick fixes” to avoid and how to properly and legally deal with creditors. Bring a list of your debts with balances and monthly payments and learn how to develop your debt elimination plan that you can implement immediately. Before you apply for a business loan, consider making that next large purchase or accept a new credit card, take the time to attend this life-changing seminar. Bring a calculator.


Be Free from Debt’s Hold–Prepare for a Bank Business Loan will be held Jan. 17 from 6 – 9 p.m.


Do you have the personality, drive, creativity, adaptability, and a host of other talents and attributes that comprise a successful entrepreneur? Participants of, “So You Think You Want to Start a Business,” will honestly assess themselves in order to discover their strengths and weaknesses to make a more informed decision on moving forward at this point in time. This seminar also incorporates various exercises and role playing events in which you will be faced with realistic challenges encountered

by entrepreneurs to determine or design a solution. Participants will present their business ideas and be shown various ways they can determine if the idea is feasible and viable.


So You Think You Want to Start a Business will be held Jan. 30 from 6 – 9 p.m.

Seats are still available for these Small Business Center classes. To register in person, stop by the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall. You may also register by phone with a credit card at (910) 695-3980. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
