SCC Career Development Classes Set to Begin in February


The Career Development Program at Sandhills Community College is a workforce development program that provides skills assessment services, employability skills training, and career development counseling to individuals in transition and the emerging workforce. 

“Career Exploration & Planning” will teach students to explore career opportunities, set goals, and visualize improvements needed to reach their potential. Students will develop a written plan of action.

“Career Exploration & Planning” will be held Feb. 13 -23, Mondays –Thursdays from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. The cost it $75 and may be waived for qualified students.

“How to Interview with Confidence” will teach students how to sell themselves and stand out from the crowd. Students will receive tips for the interview: what to say, how to say it, and the ten questions that will make or break an interview. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a mock interview.

“How to Interview with Confidence” will be held Monday –Thursday, Feb. 27 – Mar. 2 from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. The cost is $75 and may be waived for qualified students)

“Pre-Employment Training” will teach career related basics such as how to properly complete an application, write a résumé, and prepare for an interview. Students will learn job search techniques and how to be safe and successful on a job. This class is a requirement to be considered for employment with Smithfield Packing Company. 

A new class instructed by Jason Davies will be offered the first and third week of each month at the Sandhills Hoke Center in Raeford, Monday – Friday at 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The cost is $75 (waived for qualified students). Call the Hoke Center at (910) 875-8589 for more information. 

NCWorks Career Center-Moore County offers “Pre-Employment Training”  beginning Monday morning the second week of each month. The class is Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The cost is $75 (waived for qualified students). 

Instructor, Phil Laton’s “Re-Employment Services Workshop” is designed for those who are re-entering the workforce and need to refresh interview and employment skill set. This workshop will aid students in discovering a career that matches skills or help develop a training plan to learn new skills, explore career opportunities, and develop a written plan of action. Students will have the opportunity to create or update their résumé, customizing it for different jobs. They will learn to deal with the stress of long-term unemployment, sell themselves, and stand out from other applicants in an interview. 

The cost for the “Re-Employment Services Workshop” is $75 (waived for qualified students). There are two sessions per month on Wednesdays at 9 – 10:30 a.m. at NCWorks Career Center-Moore County in Aberdeen.
