Two High-Demand Advanced Manufacturing Career Classes to Begin in April at SCC

02-09-2017

Sandhills Community College has two classes beginning soon that train for very high-demand, well-paying jobs in local industry.

Beginning April 25, with classes during the evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Basic Machining will be taught. Students will learn the safe operation of drill presses, metal-cutting saws, lathes, milling machines, and grinders. They will produce precision parts utilizing appropriate speeds, feeds, and tooling.

The class runs through mid-October and upon completion, successful students qualify to take the National Institute for Metalworking Skills certification test.

The second class is Computer Numeric Control (CNC) Machining. A career in CNC Machining involves the safe use of Human Machine Interface (HMI) for operating lathes and mills for the manufacturing of precision parts. This class begins April 24 and will be on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

Upon successful completion of the CNC Machining class, students will have knowledge of Numerical Control and Computerized Numerical Control and CNC machine tools and understand the operating principal/controls for CNC machining.

The cost for each of these classes is $185. Continuing Education scholarships may be available. Classes will be in the Palmer Trades Building on the Pinehurst campus on Airport Road.
