SCC Continuing Education Technology Classes to Begin in March

Adult learners can learn how to correctly and fully use their computer operating systems and programs, learn about computer safety, and how to use social media during the month of March in Continuing Education Technology classes at Sandhills Community College.

 

“Windows 10 Level 1” covers how to navigate and use the new Windows 10 operating system. Topics will include using Windows applications, computer terminology, how to use the Start Menu, and how to create, save, format, locate and print files. Students should have upgraded to Windows 10 or have a new computer with this operating system. A flash drive 8GB or larger is required.

 

“Windows 10 Level 1” will be held Mar. 7 – Apr. 13 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. The cost is $75. 

 

“QuickBooks” presents the fundamentals of the QuickBooks accounting application. Topics will include employee file management, payroll, record keeping, and the treatment of various types of transactions. A flash drive 8GB or larger is required. Prerequisites for the course are Windows operating system experience, knowledge of accountings principles, and using the Internet.

 

“QuickBooks” will be held Mar. 13 – Apr. 24 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 – 8 p.m. The cost is $75. 

 

“Five Essentials for Keeping Your Computer Safe” will help you set up protective measures to keep the personal data on your computer safe. Topics covered will be updating software, backing up your data using cloud-based storage, virus protection, and more. The prerequisites for the course are Windows 10 operating system experience and knowledge of using the Internet.

 

“Five Essentials for Keeping Your Computer Safe” will meet Mar. 6 – 22 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 – 8 p.m. The cost is $75. 

 

In the course, “Malware Eradication,” students will learn how to identify malware, remove and delete it, and recover the operating system to working condition. If the system has become too damaged to repair due to malware, learn how to reinstall the operating system and programs and how to put back your files and import them into your programs.

 

“Malware Eradication” will meet Mar. 28 – May 4 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 – 3 p.m.

 

“Gmail and Google” will include how to get more out of Google Searches, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, G+, Hangouts, Maps, and more. Students will need a working knowledge of Internet use.

 

“Gmail and Google” will be held Mar. 3 – Apr. 21 on Fridays from 9 a.m. – noon. 

 

 “Social Media Basics,” will teach the importance of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and more. The class will teach participants how to grow a business, expanding a customer base, and make more money through social media marketing. Students can bring their own laptop or iPad to class. This class is perfect for small business owners, employees, or anyone with an interest in expanding their social media knowledge. Students will need a working knowledge of Internet use.

 

“Social Media Basics” will be held Mar. 27 – May 8 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 – 8 p.m. The cost is $75.

 

“Photo Editing Using Photoshop Elements 14 Level 2” will teach editing in Raw format, using the Expert mode in Editor, including using blends and layers, as well as creating a type mask and montages that blend two or more images into one. Learn to frame photos, create twirl effects, push a photo though text, add texture, and make a photo look like a painting. A flash drive 8GB or larger is required. The prerequisite for the course is, Elements 14 Level 1 or prior experience and a good working knowledge of computers, using a mouse or pen tablet, file management, and a creative mind.

 

“Photo Editing Using Photoshop Elements 14 Level 2” Mar. 20 – May 1 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 – 3 p.m. The cost is $75.

Seats are still available for these classes. To register in person, stop by the Sandhills Community College Continuing Education office located on the first floor of Van Dusen Hall. You may also register by phone with a credit card at (910) 695-3980. Registration hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
