The goal of Career Development at SCC is to assist students in assessing their interests, personality traits, and abilities in setting career and/or educational goals, and in creating a pathway that will lead to economic, social, and educational success.
“Computer Basics for Employment: Keyboarding Skills” is an entry-level class that provides students the opportunity to become proficient and accurate on the computer keyboard. It is designed for true beginners or those wanting to improve their speed and technique.
“Computer Basics for Employment: Keyboarding Skills” will be held Apr. 18 – May 11, Monday – Thursday from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. The cost is $130 and may be waived for qualified students.
“The Pre-Employment Training” course will teach career related basics such as how to properly complete an application, write a résumé, and prepare for an interview. Students will learn job search techniques and how to be safe and successful on a job. This class is a requirement to be considered for employment with Smithfield Packing Company.
A new class instructed by Mark Adkins begins Monday – Friday at 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. the first and third week of each month at the Sandhills Hoke Center in Raeford. The cost is $75 and is waived for qualified students. Call the Hoke Center at (910) 875-8589 for more information.
NCWorks Career Center-Moore County also hosts new classes beginning Monday morning the second week of each month. The class is Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The cost is $75 and is waived for qualified students.
Instructor, Phil Laton’s “Re-Employment Services Workshop” is designed for students who are re-entering the workforce and need to refresh their interview and employment skill set. This workshop will aid students in discovering a career that matches skills or help develop a training plan to learn new skills, explore career opportunities, and develop a written plan of action. Students will have the opportunity to create or update their résumé, customizing it for different jobs. Students will also learn to deal with the stress of long-term unemployment, sell themselves, and stand out from other applicants in an interview.
The cost for the “Re-Employment Services Workshop” is $75 and is waived for qualified students. There are two sessions per month on Wednesdays at 9 – 10:30 a.m. at NCWorks Career Center-Moore County in Aberdeen. Call Tenille at 910.944.7697 for more information and to register.
“Workplace Survival Skills” will teach students the elements that are essential for keeping a job. Learn the importance of attitude, integrity, and ethics for success in the workplace.
